Education is Transformative
The Value of Education Worldwide
In the most impoverished settings, education is valued the most. Teaching has taken me away from Canada to countries in Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
Current Work
Currently, my work in Afghanistan has been with people eager to learn. They are motivated to improve their education system. They genuinely value education for their children, both male and female.
Insights need to be passed on.
There are people in our society who do not receive the kind of support and education they need. An educator can acquire this knowledge through formal education and by working in varied contexts with the vulnerable.
Positive Relationships
Teaching, to me, has always emphasized establishing positive relationships with students, whether children or adults. Those taught, almost exclusively, have been children and adults who are disadvantaged in one way or another, whether due to poverty, learning difficulties, different cultures, trauma or other factors. For the latter part of my career, it has been with those who are working with various vulnerable groups.
